The TA Consultant Program provides a variety of free consultations to UC Davis graduate students and post-docs to help improve teaching. The two most-requested consultations are Mid-Quarter Interviews (MQIs) and Video Consultations. For more information, please see the individual tabs above.
Mid-Quarter Inverviews (MQIs) are 20-minute sessions in which we solicit suggestions from your students on how their learning experience can be improved. This also helps us determine if you are conveying information to your students effectively! The 20 minute in-class consultation is followed by a one-on-one consultation with a TA consultant who will discuss and help you address the suggestions with your students. To request this consultation, click here.
Videotaping consists of a TA consultant recording 20 minutes of you during your class followed by a one-on-one consultation with that consultant. This service allows you to review your presenting styles and learn tips on how to present material more clearly. To request this consultation, click here.
We also offer Classroom Observations. These consultations involve a TA consultant observing your class for up to 40 minutes and recording almost every action (and interaction) of you and your students. A classroom observation is particularly useful for elucidating classroom dynamics. To request this consultation, click here.
Lastly, through our General Consultation service we provide consultations on ethical questions, lesson plans, grading rubrics, and more. We can also read and edit your Statement of Teaching Philosophy.
